Have a Great Trip! Making Mission More Manageable- Sam Perkins - AM
In 17 years of ministry, I've planned a led close to fifty mission trips and service retreats. Some of them were fantastic, some of them were kinda sucky, some were misguided, and some I barely remember; but each one of them taught me something about the next one. I want to share the things I've learned and observed to help you in determining where to go, why to go, how to get there, and what to do while you are there and when your return. Figuring out the details and finances, dealing with deadlines and rosters and the unexpected can exhaust a person or a team before you even set foot on the field. Let's remove some of the anxiety and guesswork, so you can focus on the mission, the people, the possibilities, and being available to how the Spirit wants to move in and through and around your experience.
Topics to be covered:
- Finding a trip
- Planning my own trip vs. using a trip provider
- Fundraising
- Recruiting
- Preparation
- Flexibility
- Learning vs. Serving
Sam has been serving in full-time youth ministry for 17 years between his current call as Pastor for Youth and their Families at Westminster Presbyterian in Greensboro, NC and his first call in the Chicagoland area. He really works to bring a balance of humor and substance, wisdom and whimsy, creativity and cooperation to the table, and believes strongly that relationship drives everything regardless of where you're going. He and his wife met at a Presbyterian Youth Camp in southern Indiana, and have three children who they like most of the time.
